Saturday, January 21st the Twisters hosted the Stonewall Jets.
The first period looked like it was going to be fairly uneventul and would end in a draw. But then a late penalty by the Stonewall Jets gave the Twisters all the chance they needed to open up the scoring with a nice power-play goal by Marcus Siemens, assisted by Jory Coates and Ryan Maynard.
Second period saw a lot of power-play opportunities for both teams. But a quick even-strength goal only a minute and a half into the period, scored by Tyler Peers and assisted by Tristan Keck (AP) and Macauley Siemens, gave the Twisters a 2-0 lead. However, only 20 seconds later, the Twisters found themselves short-handed, and ultimately gave up their first goal of the night. The Twisters got their first power-play opportunity of this period and took full advantage of it with captain Graham Leiding scoring with assists from Macauley Siemens and Jory Coates. However, was this a goal or not??? The ref's arm didn't go down even though the Twisters skated to the bench in full celebration mode. The ref called his linesmen over and talked - - -and still no indication, as the celebration on the Twister bench continued. Then the ref called the goal judge over and then confirmed that it was indeed a goal!! Scoring alternated for the rest of the period as follows: Stonewall Jets - power-play goal - score 3-2 for Twisters Twisters - even strengh goal by Kevin Coulombe, assisted by Colton Hnatiuk and Brooks Keen - score 4-2 for Twisters Stonewall Jets - their first even strength goal of the evening. - score 4-3 for Twisters So the teams would go to the dressing room with a pretty tight score to start the third period with. And since each team had managed to score 2 power-play goals to this point, it was obvious that staying out of the box for the third period would be a key component to winning this game.
The Twisters dominated the third period, and instead of five penalties like they had taken in the second period, they managed to keep their visits to the sin bin down to two and reaped the rewards, since the Stonewall Jets only scored one goal this period to the Twisters three. Final score was 7-4 in favour of the Twisters whose line-up of Peers, Leiding and Keck blew this game open in the third period. Scoring in the third period for the Twisters was as follows: 5th goal - Tyler Peers assisted by Tristan keck and Jesse Livingston 6th goal - Graham Leiding assisted by Tyler Peers 7th goal - Tyler Peers assisted by Tristan Keck

| TWISTERS OPEN NEW YEAR IN ST. JAMES CIVIC CENTRE |
|
|
The Twisters started off 2012 with a game in the St. James Civic Centre against the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins.
The Twins scored the first goal of the evening, taking an early lead. But by the end of the second, the score was tied at 3-3 with some exciting nail-biting moments.
In the first 1/2 of the third period, theTwins took a two goal lead. With a little less than 7 minutes left, the Twisters scored a goal, coming within sniffing distance of a tie.
Despite lots of great pressure, and pulling their goaltender, the Twisters were unable to find that tying goal that would give them an overtime chance in this game.
The game ended 5-4 in favour of the Twins.
The Twisters have a bit of a break coming up, as originally there was a game scheduled for Saturday the 7th against the Transcona Railers, but since that team has folded, it will be a practice night for the Twisters.
With three more practices before their next game, the Twisters will have ample opportunity to prepare for the River East Knights, who are currently holding last place in the league .
